Tauranga is a hotspot for holiday goers as thousands of Kiwis have flocked to Bay of Plenty for their summer holidays.

Air New Zealand chief customer and sales officer Leanne Geraghty says the more than 47,000 visiting the region over the summer holiday period on around 1400 flights will be a welcome boost for Bay of Plenty tourism and accommodation providers.

"We're excited to help connect Kiwis with their friends and whānau this summer,” says Leanne.

“It’s such a special time of year to spend with loved ones, so we’re thrilled to be helping people connect all around the country.

"These numbers underscore the strength of Air New Zealand's domestic network, which is one of the best in the world, and the confidence Kiwi families have in getting out to explore this beautiful country of ours."

Air New Zealand is preparing for a busy summer, with the airline flying more than 915,000 customers across New Zealand between December 15, 2021, and January 31, 2022.

"We're enjoying a bumper season and bringing much-needed visitors to regional New Zealand,” says Leanne.

All customers aged 12 or older are required to show proof of either full vaccination or of a negative Covid-19 test result taken within 72 hours of travel.

"The process is running quite smoothly, with around 300,000 customers uploading their My Vaccine Pass to their Airpoints profile."

Air New Zealand is encouraging customers looking for something to do during their holidays to check out their range of Qualmark-endorsed activities.
