Live: Positive Covid cases in Christchurch
The Ministry of Health says there are two positive Covid-19 cases in Christchurch from the same household.
It says the local public health unit is identifying close contacts and exposure events, including any locations of interest.
A public health risk assessment is being done this morning and there will be an update after that.
One member of the household had recently returned to Christchurch from Auckland.
Meanwhile in Waikato, the alert level 3 restrictions eased at midnight to match the greater freedoms in Auckland but the boundary remains in place.
Two households will be able to meet up outdoors within the alert level boundaries, with up to 10 people.
The alert level in the region will be reviewed on Monday, when the Auckland alert levels are also assessed.
