Teen arrested in connection with serious assault
Updated at 3:08pm: A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Tauranga last night.
The 22-year-old victim was taken to Tauranga Hospital by a friend at around 9pm says a police spokesperson.
"He was later transferred to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition," they say.
The 19 year old will be appearing at Tauranga District Court on August 17.
Earlier: A police investigation into an incident that left a Tauranga man with serious injuries, has lead officers to Beach Road, near Matua.
A SunLive reader emailed this morning to say there were police by the carpark at the intersection of Otumoetai and Beach roads.
The reader says access to the carpark had been restricted.
A police spokesperson has confirmed to SunLive that the operation was in connection to an alleged assault.
“Police were notified yesterday of a person presenting at hospital with injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances.”
Earlier this morning, police told SunLive that a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries at around 9pm on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing.
