Covid-19 vaccination info night in Tauranga

The community information night takes place on Tuesday night.

A community information night about the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out is taking place in Tauranga next week.

It comes amid the recent Covid-19 scare at the Port of Tauranga and with New Zealand set to speed up the vaccination programme – opening up all bookings to anyone over 16 from the start of September.

The free open forum is being hosted by Otumoetai Church of Christ and will involve several figures from the Bay of Plenty region involved in the roll-out of the vaccination.

Representatives from the Bay of Plenty Health District, Western Bay of Plenty Primary Health Organisation and the Immunisation Advisory Centre will be speaking and taking questions.

Event organiser David Nelson says the evening is a chance for people to ask questions and for clinicians involved with the vaccine rollout in the Bay of Plenty to share information.

“We've heard locals with a lot of questions and concerns about the vaccine,” says David.

“So I thought, ‘What better way to get answers than to talk to the actual people involved the roll out?’”

“We've also seen misinformation circulating in pamphlets and social media posts, or friends of friends telling us about the vaccine.

“It can be confusing and frustrating, so we want to give people the opportunity to hear directly from professionals.”

David says the DHB were happy to help when contacted by the church.

“It will be a forum for respectful conversation, giving room for members of the community to voice their genuine questions, and for the clinicians to provide answers,” he says.

“I hope people who are uncertain about the vaccine can come away with a better understanding and feel more confident making a decision about it.”

The Community Information Night is taking place on Tuesday, August 17, from 6.30pm at the Otumoetai Church of Christ at 258 Ngatai Road.
