UPDATE: Kiwi kayaker Lis Carrington has put in another strong performance to advance to the K1 500 Olympic final this afternoon.

Carrington has already secured two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics and was a clear winner in her semifinal, with the final scheduled for just before 3.30pm.

Fellow gold medallist Caitlin Regal finished third in her K1 500 semi and did not advance.

Shot putter Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill will also be in action in the shot put final from 2.05pm.

Walsh who qualified with the second longest throw on Tuesday night is among the medal favourites although Ryan Crouser from the US who is the current world record holder will be tough to beat for the gold medal.

Lydia Ko competes in the second round of the women's golf - she finished one under par yesterday, leaving her tied for 14th and four shots back from leader Sweden's Madelene Sagstrom.
