Water quality sampling is expected to be taken in Papamoa today after a wastewater overflow incident.

In a post on its website, Tauranga City Council says a wastewater overflow has occurred at 308 Dickson Road, Papamoa, on Wednesday.

“At this stage the cause appears to be a blockage caused by tree roots,” reads the post.

“This will have impacted the Wairakei Stream at Parton Road.”

TCC contractors were onsite on Wednesday, removing the blockage and cleaning the site.

“Signage will be placed along the walkway in the Wairakei Reserve at access points into areas of the reserve that have been impacted,” says the council.

“Water quality sampling will be undertaken today, weather permitting.”

The core functions of council are the provision and maintenance of community services. Is it too much to ask that until core services are running at 90% or greater, funding for other "nice to have" projects is dramatically reduced...?
