Second arrest in netball hammer incident

A second person has been arrested following an incident at the Tauranga Netball Centre last month.

On May 15, three men were seen fighting at the centre around 11.15am.

At the time of the incident, a concerned parent stating a hammer was involved.

The incident occurred in front of participating children at the sports complex on the corner of Maunganui Road and Hull Road.

In a statement released today, a police spokesperson says a 22-year-old Mount Maunganui man has been arrested.

The accused will be appearing at Tauranga District Court on Monday, June 21, charged with assault with a weapon.

"A 34-year-old man from Whakamarama has already been convicted and fined for fighting in a public place in relation to the incident.

"Both men have been trespassed from the Tauranga Netball Centre."
