Western Bay of Plenty Police have taken a hard line with anti-social driving behaviour in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui.

Police received a number of complaints regarding driving behaviour in the area last Saturday.

“Police take these reports seriously, and officers were quick to respond,” says a police statement on the matter.

As a result of attending the scene, five vehicles were impounded on Saturday night, and one was impounded the next morning after follow-up enquiries.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and Police want people to be safe and feel safe on our Roads,” reads a police statement.

“Police take our responsibility in preventing death and injury on our roads seriously and will continue to target poor driver behaviour to keep our community safe.”

Five infringement notices were issued for speeding and breaching licence conditions.

One driver was fined $250 for driving with excess breath alcohol.

Crushing.

It looks like most people are in favor of destroying vehicles impounded for ant-social behavior. You could say it was a crushing majority...

get rid

i thought WOF had noise limits for a wof, but they should be crushed motor bikes as well, and a 5 year ban on owning one, hit it where it hurts.

Hmmm

Agree with the notion of crushing. However, there are a lot of car thefts going on at the moment, for the purpose of racing and burnouts. Wouldn’t be nice to wake up to find that your car was stolen and crushed.

I thoroughly agree

with the other comments - no reason at all for these clueless antisocial types to be doing burnouts at Barkes Corner and racing on the expressway at 2.30 am! Crush the offending vehicles, that’s the only thing that will bring about change as most get their fines excused, so that’s obviously no deterrent. Hit them where it hurts (in the pocket) and decent people can sleep well and shift workers be safer driving home.

Crusher

Bring back Crusher Collins and make an example of these law breaking idiots.

Noise Limits Too

yaddick agree with you also crush them as they are seized. do not allow anyone to remove fittings or accessories or any mechanical parts first

Only one way to deal with this......

.......crush all those vehicles and charge the owner for doing so. We need some harsh examples setting to show these clueless morons that they can’t behave like this. But of course, NZ is probably the softest nation when it comes to handing out punishments.

YES

Bring on the crusher and while you’re at it toss in those seized noisey pathetic gang bikes too. Make them watch. Forget a public flogging have a public crushing.
