SH2 Karangahake reopens after serious crash

State Highway 2 in Karangahake Gorge has reopened following a serious crash this morning.

The two vehicle crash occurred around 7.45am north of Rahu Road and one person is in a serious condition.

A St John spokesperson says an ambulance and a helicopter from Hamilton responded to the scene.

"St John treated two patients, one in a minor condition and one in a serious condition.The patient in a serious condition has been airlifted to Waikato Hospital," they say

The patient in a minor condition was assessed and treated at the scene only with no transport required, says the spokesperson.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising people to allow extra time for travel as delays ease.
