Police have arrested a senior Mongols motorcycle gang member who has been wanted for nearly a year.

The 27-year-old man was arrested at an address in Waipara, Canterbury, just after 4:30pm on Tuesday.

A MSSA (military-style semi-automatic) firearm was also located at the address, says Detective Inspector Paul Newman.

"The man first had warrants for his arrest issued in May 2020 in Auckland.

"He was wanted for serious drug-dealing, firearms and money-laundering allegations relating to Operation Nestegg."

He will appear in the Christchurch District Court this morning facing several charges.

Police will continue to target organised criminal groups and those who are in possession of unlawful firearms, says Pual.

"We want to ensure our communities are resilient and feel safe.

"Police welcomes information from anyone who has concerns about organised crime, illicit drugs, or the illegal possession of firearms in their community."

They are encouraged to report online at 105.police.govt.nz, call Police on 105, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-nz.org.

You can run but you can’t hide. He was probably making plans to go and hand his illegal firearms in. To the NZ Police, another job well done. Let’s hope the so called Justice System doesn’t let you down but also let’s not hold our breath.

Hmmm

So do we watch and wait for a watered down charge of possession of an illegal firearm as our "justice" system goes soft on criminal activities to reduce prison population numbers....? Otherwise good people get harassed, demonised and run out of town by the handwringers and sickeningly good for expressing an opinion, either verbally or on social media and we go cap in hand to "meetings" with gangs. Make prison a growth industry and a place nobody wants to enter because of "harsh" conditions with severe consequences.
