Person dies after train incident in Otumoetai

UPDATE 7.43AM: One person is dead following an incident involving a train in Otumoetai this morning.

Emergency services were called to Ngatai Road train tracks at 5.30am.

"One person has died after being hit by a train along Ngatai Road," confirms a police spokesperson.

A SunLive reader says she was driving down Ngatai Road when she saw a train had stopped on the tracks.

She says there were about 10 police cars, a fire engine and possibly an ambulance by the underpass opposite Otumoetai Intermediate on Ngatai Road.

Police are investigating the matter and people are asked to avoid the scene while examinations are taking place.

Members of the public are reporting a large police presence in Otumoetai this morning.

A SunLive reader says she was driving down Ngatai Road when she saw a train had stopped on the tracks.

She says there were about 10 police cars, a fire engine and possibly an ambulance by the underpass opposite Otumoetai Intermediate on Ngatai Road.

She says it "looks very serious".
