Hundreds without power in Te Puke

Hundreds of properties are without power in Te Puke tonight.

According to the Powerco website, 688 properties have been affected by the outage.

The cause of the outage is under investigation, but SunLive has received reports of a car crash on Moehau street.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a vehicle has hit a power pole.

They say emergency services are at the scene.

When will pressure be brought to bear on Power Companies to force them to invest in proper redundant reticulation? ONE power line for a community, and thousands of people are without power because a car hit a power pole or lightning hit a transformer. They are creaming it off us and NOT re-investing. They should be required by Law to re-invest a percentage of profits into the Network. But nobody is making a noise, so they won’t. In the time I was in Bangla Desh and Mexico, I experienced fewer power cuts than we have here in Tauranga over the same period...
