Arrests made in Te Puna police operation
Three people are facing serious drug-related charges following a police operation in Te Puna.
The Western Bay of Plenty suburb was locked down on Monday morning as police carried out a pre-planned operation.
Te Puna residents were urged to avoid Tangitu Road yesterday while police carried out the operation, which was safely resolved overnight.
SunLive was contacted by several community members yesterday about an armed police presence near Tangitu Road.
Western Bay of Plenty Investigations Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson says three people have been charged with serious drug offending.
They will appear in the Tauranga District Court today.
“I would like to thank people living in the area for their patience while the road was closed.
"We know this was an inconvenience and did cause concern for local residents.”
He says the road has now reopened, however, there will still be a police presence at the scene address.
