Man arrested after Papamoa disorder

A man is due in court today following a police callout in Papamoa.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the incident unfolded near Papamoa Motor Camp at 5.30pm on Sunday.

“It was pretty scary stuff.

The caller says there was a person, who he says was armed, going around threatening people in the area.

A police spokesperson confirmed that officers were called to a report of a disorder at Papamoa Beach at 5.20pm.

“A group of people were reportedly driving around the domain carpark with weapons.

“No one was injured.

“Police stopped the vehicle and arrested one person.”

A 33-year-old man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon and possession of methamphetamine utensils.

He is due to appear in Tauranga District Court today.

it is a very bad mix. As I have said before, anyone presenting a firearm should get a mandatory jail sentence, and if they discharge it, that should be doubled. We should have a zero tolerance for misuse of guns.
