Rotorua Powerball player scores $8.5 million

Powerball is on a winning streak already this year, with a lucky player from Rotorua taking home $8.5 million with Powerball First Division.

The winning ticket was sold at Western Heights Foodmarket in Rotorua and is made up of $8 million from Powerball First Division and $500,000 from Lotto First Division, says a Lotto spokesperson.

"Wednesday night’s winner is the fourth Powerball winner this year, the win coming just two weeks after a lucky player from Te Aroha scored themselves $4.5 million with Powerball First Division.

"One other Lotto player from Auckland will also be celebrating after winning $500,000 with Lotto First Division tonight. The winning Lotto ticket was sold at Valley Road Superette in Auckland."

Strike Four was also won tonight by two players from Napier and Invercargill who each took home $200,000.

The winning Strike tickets were sold at Z Kennedy Road in Napier and Windsor Stationery & Lotto in Invercargill.

Anyone who bought their ticket from any of the above winning stores should write their name on the back of their ticket and check it at any Lotto NZ outlet, online at or through the Lotto NZ App.
