Update: One lane open after SH25 Hikuai crash

All lanes are open and congestion is easing.

Update, 11.10am:

One lane has opened following a serious crash on SH25, Hikuai.

Waka Kotahi NZTA say stop/go traffic management is in place.

"Motorists are advised to expect delays or to delay their journey."

Update, 8.19am:

One person is in serious condition following a single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on SH25, between Tairua and Whangamata.

The male pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital, says a Police spokesperson.

Part of SH25 is closed between SH25A and Hikuai Settlement Rd.

Waka Kotahi NZTA say its likely that the closure will be in place for some time.

"Consider delaying your journey or allow extra time for a long detour."

Diversions are being set up at SH25A south of the scene.

Police say the incident occured around 6.50am.


Emergency services have been called to a serious crash on SH25 Hikuai, between Tairua and Whangamata.

A Waka Kotahi NZTA release says there will be delays in both directions, and road closure is possible.

 "An update will be provided as soon as more information is available."
