Body found on Papamoa Beach

A body has been found on Papamoa beach this morning, near Karewa Parade.

Tauranga Police can confirm a body has been located at Papamoa Beach.

A local resident says police and surf lifesavers were on the beach near Karewa Parade.

The body was found by a member of the public who notified Police at about 7am today, says a police spokesperson.

“The body has now been recovered and a blessing performed.”

At this time it is too early to confirm the person's identity or any further details, says the spokesperson.

"However as a result, we will not be resuming the search for a missing swimmer near Mount Maunganui today."

Police will provide updates as they come available.
