Primary health care workers will be holding rallies around the country today as part of a nation-wide strike for pay parity.

More than 3000 nurses and administration staff will be on strike for 24 hours from today.

Chris Wilson from the Nurses Organisation says staff will hold midday rallies as part of the strike.

She says staff are walking off the job to protest against stalled progress on negotiations.

Primary health care nurses are paid about 10 per cent less than DHB staff, and some medical receptionists do not earn a living wage, says Chris.

Another 24 hour strike is planned for 23 November.
