Tauranga hosts national homebirth conference
This weekend researchers, health professionals, women and their partners from the deep south to the far north, have converged on Tauranga for all things birth related.
Events kicked off on the Friday night with a photographic exhibition ‘Tihei Mauri Ora - A Photographic Journey to the First Breath’, by local birth educator and doula Sophia Paskell.
Having attended hundreds of births, Sophia felt compelled to capture the sacredness, power and love that exists in the first few seconds of birth, when a baby takes their first breath.
Today is the Homebirth Aotearoa conference, which takes place at Bayhill Function Centre, Waitao Rd and brings together parents, researchers, health practitioners, and leading birth experts to present research and share personal experiences.
This year also coincides with International Year of the Midwife and of course, lessons and research resulting from the Covid pandemic.
