Heavy rain for parts of the North Island

More rain is forecast to hit the Bay of Plenty today.

A severe weather watch for heavy rain remains in force for the Bay of Plenty today.

The MetService says a front is moving slowly east over the North Island today, preceded by periods of northerly rain.

"The heaviest falls are forecast for the central North Island hill country and eastern Bay of Plenty where heavy rain watches are still in force.

"People are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made."

Area: The eastern ranges of Bay of Plenty
Valid: 15 hours from 7am to 10pm Tuesday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria.

Area: Taupo, Taumarunui, Waitomo and southern Waikato
Valid: 14 hours from 10pm Monday to 12pm Tuesday
Forecast: A period of heavy rain.

Area: Tongariro National Park
Valid: 14 hours from 8pm Monday to 10am Tuesday
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria.
