School holidays always receives a mixed reaction as children are excited at not having to be at school, while parents are often left wondering what to do with their children.

Two Tauranga girls decided to use the beach as an entertainment wonderland this week.

Eight-year-old Sophia Jenkins and her five-year-old sister Elise spent a day playing in the sand and letting their mind get creative this week.

With a little help from their dad Grant, the sisters set about building a sand castle on Harbour Drive in Bureta.

A photo sent in to SunLive shows just how proud the girls are of their hard work.

What have your children been up to these school holidays?
