Contracts for Omokoroa Road upgrade awarded
The construction contract for the Omokoroa Road upgrade from Western Avenue to Tralee Street has been awarded to J Swap Contractors Limited.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council received seven tenders for the contract, selecting J Swap Contractors’ bid of $5.76 million for the construction phase of the $8 million total project cost.
Omokoroa Road Urbanisation is the first of the ‘shovel ready’ projects in the $14 million package allocated in the Crown Infrastructure Partners funding for Omokoroa Road Safety Upgrades and Urbanisation Sites.
The project is co-funded by Council, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and CIP and construction will start before Christmas.
Council’s group manager infrastructure Services Gary Allis says Council is pleased to award the contract to a local company.
“J Swap Contractors is a good local employer and has a quarry in Katikati. Furthermore, they are already familiar with Omokoroa’s local conditions and the community having been sub-contracted to Westlink for the construction of Omokoroa Road from the state highway to Lynley Park in 2017/18.”
The project includes upgrading 1.3km of Omokoroa Road from Western Avenue to Tralee Street to an urbanised standard complete with kerbing, footpath/cycle path, lighting, drainage, utility services and landscaping.
It includes a roundabout at Tralee Street and at McKenna Lane, plus improved entrances to Fresh Choice supermarket and the commercial shopping area.
Utilities services will be partially undergrounded.
