Showcase food festival launches in Tauranga
For the third year running the Taste Tauranga festival is set to bring the city centre to life in August with a fortnight of exclusive events, specialty menus, Taste Trails and chances to win great prizes.
Organised by Mainstreet Downtown Tauranga Taste Tauranga 2020 starts on August 14 and spokesperson Millie Newitt says some of the exclusive events are already selling out as word gets out around the offerings.
“Taste Tauranga 2020 features over 25 of our amazing restaurants, cafes and bars and some incredible events like the Taste Trails that allow the public to book for an evening that takes them across four restaurants to sample some amazing taste sensations.
"This year we have a Tapas Trail, Craft Trail and Date night as part of the line-up, all with different price point and food/entertainment options. It’s going to be so much fun and some are already selling out.”
Despite the COVID-19 lockdown, Mainstreet Downtown Tauranga were determined to still deliver the Taste Tauranga Festival this year to support the city centre.
“It takes a huge amount of organising and involves a really strong collaborative platform across our hospitality sector, but despite the short time frame when we came out of lock-down we knew it was imperative we worked even harder to pull the feastival together this year to support our cafes, restaurants and bars and in fact our city centre as a whole.
"We’re just been blown away by the events that have been pulled together and the work the hospitality sector has put in with us to bring this together. The public are in for a real treat.”
This year the Taste Tauranga Festival includes the chance to win great prizes including a $5000 diamond from Peet Jewellers.
“There’s also the chance to win a year’s free dining in the city centre – imagine that! And we have the Burger Competition running so the public can try different burgers from different eateries and vote for their favourite. Someone will win a burger feast for them and three friends!"
Millie says it’s more important than ever to encourage support for city centre businesses.
“We have been promoting Buy Local Buy Tauranga and with this festival we encourage the public to Buy Local Taste Tauranga.
"Our hospitality sector work long hours and have such a passion for their businesses and the city centre. They have all had to adapt and evolve post lock down to survive.
"Taste Tauranga is both a celebration of our amazing city centre dining and entertainment options and a chance for the public to show some great support to our hospitality sector … and enjoy some amazing taste sensations and entertainment on these cold winter days and nights too!”
Taste Tauranga runs August 14 – 30.
