A “major fault” is being blamed for a power outage in the Welcome Bay/Hairini area.

A SunLive reader says they witnessed a power outage following two loud bangs and flashes of white light around 7pm.

The reader reports lines were down at the start of Hairini Street.

Power is reported to still be out in the area this morning.

“The power is still out at mine and in patches in Hairini and Welcome Bay.

“Powerco says it’s a major fault with no ETA for restoration.”

SunLive has contacted Powerco for more information and will provide an update when we can.
