Public question police presence on Route K

File Image.

A number of police units have been spotted on Route K, near The Lakes roundabout, this morning.

A member of the public was on his way to work when he spotted police in the area.

"There were three police cars, all with lights flashing, on the side of the road.

"They were out of their vehicles and looked like they were searching the area."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says he saw the same thing and reports that one of the officers were armed.

"There were at least three police cars, and one officer had a rifle.

"I wonder what is going on?"

SunLive has contacted police for more information and will provide an update when we can.

Was the police presence

related to the news item of yesterday, where armed police stopped a vehicle? Were today’s officers searching for "something" thrown from that car yesterday? A bit of a worry at that time of the day, with kids in some cars on their way to schools.... I’d like to know why the stopping, with armed officers, is occurring, too - the Police should be more upfront on such issues.
