LIVE: 13th day of no new COVID-19 cases

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

UPDATE: Today marks the 13th consecutive day New Zealand has reported no new cases of COVID-19.

"This is good news," says Director-General Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

He says we are in a privileged position.

"New Zealand is in the position that many countries envy internationally."

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 1154.

There are no additional deaths and no one is in hospital.

Ashley says there remains one active case in NZ.

Yesterday, 2649 tests were processed, bringing the total number of test processed to date to 286,174.

Ashley says the international situation is still serious, with June 1 the day with the most cases reported in a single day worldwide - more than 6.3 million cases.

"If we want to stay in a good position here, we can't act as if it's all over globally."

He says New Zealand is learning from other countries about the potential for safely reopening borders while preventing outbreaks of the virus.

He says his message for businesses that are not routinely using contact tracing with an app or similar measures was to "get with the programme".

He says the ministry is considering implementing a requirement for businesses to do so.
