Tauranga builder lends hand to essential workers

Owner of Tauranga business Soul Carpentry Robert Callaghan.

A Tauranga builder is offering a free day of labour to one essential worker in an effort to give back to those working hard amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Soul Carpentry owner Robert Callaghan says his team of builders will work one full day for free, completing whatever jobs need doing around the house.

“Whether it be fixing a few things up - like your doors that jam when you close them, building a small fence or just digging holes and filling them back in.

"I wanted to do this because it can be hard to help out money-wise. But I can spare a day of free work on a Saturday, it’s not gonna hurt me at all.”

He says all the labour will be free, and the winner will just need to pay for materials, which will be discounted at trade price.

“I think it will be quite valuable for someone that can’t afford it, to have tradies on-site, working one day for free.”

The competition is open to all essential workers in Tauranga and will be drawn at random, says Robert.

All you have to do is comment on this Facebook post why you or someone you know deserves a helping hand.

The winner will be picked on Thursday, May 14.
