Los Angeles has become the first major US city to offer free coronavirus tests to all residents, regardless of whether they are displaying any symptoms.

Mayor Eric Garcetti made the announcement just hours after Los Angeles County reported its largest daily increase in new COVID-19 cases.

In New Zealand, Countdown has installed temperature scanners for processing and distribution workers, who will be sent home if their temperature is high.

The First Union says it suggested to the retail chain having a doctor make the final call on whether staff should be at work.

Meanwhile, the tourism industry is warning that if travel rules under alert level 2 aren't changed, thousands more jobs will be lost.
