Armed police in Welcome Bay

UPDATED 12.30pm: Armed police have responded to reports of gunshots in Welcome Bay this morning.

Police received a report after a member of the public heard a noise that sounded like a firearm being discharged, police spokesperson says.

“Police were called about 11:10am and officers who responded were armed.”

“Police have made enquiries but no firearm has been located and units have been stood down.”

EARLIER: Reports are coming in of armed police searching cars at the Welcome Bay shops this morning.

A caller to the 0800 news hotline says their neighbour went up to the shops to get bread and saw a couple of dozen police, all armed, searching cars at the shops on Welcome Bay Road.

Another person has messaged SunLive saying there are heaps of cops with guns drawn at Welcome Bay Shops and at a house in Corrina Street.
