Forty-one cases of COVID-19 in the BOP

The current numbers of COVID-19 cases sits at 41 for the Bay of Plenty District and 16 for the Lakes District.

A total of 26 have recovered from the virus in the BOP, while nine have recovered in the Lakes area.

The number of confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in the regions are as follows:

Nationally, there are 1366 cases of COVID-19.

Sadly, the death toll rose to nine yesterday when the Director-General of Health announced another four deaths.

He says three of the four deaths are from the Rosewood Resthome Cluster and one is a person in Wellington Hospital.

Ashley says two of the deaths were men in their 90s, another was a man in his 80s. All three from the Rosewood Cluster.

"A man in his 70s died in Wellington Hospital. He was linked to overseas travel."

He was admitted to Wellington Hospital on March 22 and has been quite unwell since, says Ashley.

"This is the largest numbers of deaths in one day

"It is a sobering reminder of what is at stake here."

Areas in the BOP would be helpful ie waihi, katikati, papamoa etc so the unaffected could avoid those places when shopping.
