Large bark fire in Western BOP
Fire crews have battled a large bark fire in Whakamarama overnight.
The 20m by 30m fire was on Plummers Point Road and Fire and Emergency New Zealand got the call around 9.10pm, says northern communications shift manager Craig Dally.
Seven fire appliances attended the fire and it had been put out around 11pm, he says.
“No structures were involved, it was just a big pile of bark.”
One crew stayed until around 12:45am to dampen down hot spots, Craig says.
The cause is unknown but it is not considered suspicious so a fire investigator will not be attending, he says.
