Vlogger rallies Kiwis for appreciation event
Travel vlogger The Buzzy Kiwi is rallying New Zealanders for an appreciation celebration from their homes on Wednesday, April 1.
The celebration is based on displays in Europe, where large amounts of people stood outside their homes to applaud frontline staff fighting COVID-19.
The Buzzy Kiwi, whose real name is Stephen McDowell, is dedicating the New Zealand event to healthcare staff and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
“Jacinda Ardern has led New Zealand through back-to-back tragedies. She has been the mother we didn’t know we needed. It’s time we repay the favour and return the love,” says Stephen.
“The Europeans have shown us how they do it, so we’re going to show the world how Kiwis do it. Raise a glass, bang some jandals, sing a song, dance, scream, shout, cry if you must… let’s all unite together as one.”
Stephen chose to host the event on April 1 to coincide with the Medicinal Cannabis Scheme coming into effect, which he describes as a “historic day”.
“We only have a few days to make this happen, but social media is so powerful when used for the right reasons. Please start sharing with your friends and family.”
The celebration will run for 40 minutes, from 4.20pm to 5pm.
