Jazz to take over Historic Village at Easter

Swing dancers and Superhero Second Line

The Historic Village at 17th Ave will turn into a New Orleans style jazz village at Easter.

The Tauranga Jazz Society has collaborated with the Historic Village and TECT to return this popular event to the National Jazz Festival programme.

“We are excited to be back in the village,” says Tauranga Jazz Society general manager Mandy Ryan. “We love the unique atmosphere of the Village - it goes hand and glove with jazz music. We have a great selection of bands booked from trad jazz and dixie through to big bands and contemporary jazz. There will be some surprise performances from our Baycourt concert artists as tasters for their shows, plus we will be featuring some of the National Youth Jazz Competition bands.”

There will dancing in the Village Square with Bay Dixie and Superhero Second Line, three indoor venues with jazz bands, plus a large stage with festival favourites like the Tauranga Big Band.

The unique Village shops will be open, arts and craft stalls with food stalls and Mills Reef wine and beer on the lawn. With entertainment for children from Little Big Entertainment Company families and all ages are covered for a great day out.

The Jazz Village is on Good Friday, April 10, from 11am-4pm at Historic Village, 159 17th Ave.

Tickets are $14 from Ticketek, $20 on the day, $15 for concession tickets and children under 14 can attend for free.
