TEL closed after serious crash
UPDATE 8.21AM: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on the Tauranga Eastern Link Road, Papamoa Beach.
The crash involving two vehicles was reported at 7.01am, says a police spokesperson.
"Early reports indicate one person has moderate injuries.
"The westbound lane is closed, motorists are advised to avoid the area."
A SunLive reader has contacted us on Facebook saying a rescue helicopter is on site.
A serious crash is blocking the northbound lane of the Tauranga Eastern Link this morning.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says two vehicles have crashed on the highway, near the Kaituna River overbridge.
"The northbound lane is blocked. It looks serious. There is still one person in one of the vehicles."
The NZ Transport Agency is advising people to avoid the area or delay thier journey if possible.

"A serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area and SH2 is closed Northbound between Paengaroa roundabout and Te Maunga Roundabout and Domain Road .
"Southbound is restricted to one lane pass the scene. Please delay your journey or use an alternative route. Avoid the area or delay your journey if possible."
