A family friendly festival to mark Waitangi Day
The line-up of activities and workshops have been confirmed, the weather is looking good and the 2020 Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Festival is shaping up to be a fantastic day out for all ages next Thursday.
Taking place on the Village Green at the Historic Village, the event will feature Maori Arts & Cultural performances, live music from Sweet Leaf, Left Hand Break, Sarah Spicer and many others; and workshops including poi making, raranga harakeke weaving, hip hop, art and jewellery making for children, and surf board carving demonstrations.
There will also be the chance to welcome Tauranga’s newest citizens with a mihi whakatau led by Tamati Tata.
This collaborative community event, led by Ngati Pukenga ki Tauranga Iwi Trust is an opportunity to both commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi and to acknowledge and embrace Tauranga’s multi-cultural, multi-ethnic makeup.
The Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Festival runs from 10am - 6pm on February 6, 2020 at The Historic Village with entry by gold coin donation.
With the festival based on the Village Green and The Kollective stage, it’s recommended that everyone brings a picnic, sunscreen and a sun umbrella/shade tent.
A free shuttle bus will operate from the Elizabeth Street car parking building to the Historic Village from 9am to 6pm.
