Adventures with a weka

Author Kinsa Hays is launching her book ‘Wiremu Weka Treks the Alps’ today at Tauranga City Library

A weka chasing his stolen treasures is the subject of a new book to be launched today at Tauranga City Library.

Author Kinsa Hays has written a book especially for young readers that is sure to appeal to older ones as well.

Wiremu Weka, chasing his stolen treasures, sneaks aboard the famous TranzAlpine express train, finding adventures as he crosses the Southern Alps of New Zealand.

Readers age 8-13 years can trek along with this smart bird as he hangs out with the locals, stealing stuff, and getting into other trouble. His usual response? “Oh, bugs ’n beetles!”

Fast-paced and humorous, ‘Wiremu Weka Treks the Alp’ is lavishly illustrated with photographs and maps, and packed with facts to educate while it entertains.

Kinsa will be launching the book at the Tauranga Library in Willow St today, Saturday February 25 from 1 - 2.30pm.

“Come and hear from the author and have some fun with us,” says a library spokesperson.

I attended this and Kinsa’s presentation was excellent. It’s a brilliant story entertainingly told and I found myself responding (with the children): "Oh, bugs and beetles!" This is a very good book for adults and children and it is good to see local writers writing such high quality content.
