The official holiday period began at 4pm on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, and ended at 6am on Friday, January 3 2020.
The break lasted 9.6 days, the same as for 2018/2019, says the Ministry of Transport.
“Provisionally during the 2019/2020 Christmas holiday period, there were six fatal crashes.
“The deaths included: Three drivers, two passengers, and one pedestrian.”
