An investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire in Mount Maunganui.

Crews were called to the blaze on Leander Street at 9.40pm.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern communications shift manager Craig Dally says it was well alight when fire crews arrived.

“We got a lot of calls to it. There was reports of somebody in it but it turned out there wasn’t anybody in it.”

He says four units attended the fire and it took around 20 minutes to put out.

Craig didn’t have information about the extent of the damage and says there are no reports of injuries.

A fire investigator is attending the property today, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, he says.
