Oil spill exercise to take place
People out and about around Omanu on Thursday August 15 may see some unusual activity on the beach.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council are advising not to be concerned as it will be staff undertaking an oil spill training exercise at the Omanu Surf Club.
“The exercise will involve testing beach clean-up techniques, wildlife response capabilities and establishing an emergency operations centre out in the field,” says a statement from the Regional Council.
“It is part of a regular programme of training that ensures Regional Council continue to build its oil spill response capability, so they are well prepared for the next event.”
