Elizabeth Street in Tauranga will be closed this weekend.

The road will be closed between Devonport Road and Grey Street to allow for a tower crane installation at the Farmers construction site, says the Farmers Tauranga Development Facebook page.

The road will be closed to vehicles from 7pm on Friday June 28 until the afternoon of Sunday June 30, to allow for the tower crane installation beginning early on Saturday morning.

“After this time, the road will re-open again to its current layout.

“As always, we endeavour to minimise the impacts on locals and we appreciate your patience as we take a significant step forward in construction that will ultimately bring a new vibrancy to the Tauranga CBD.”

This must be a joke

We have just arrived back from visiting London and Dublin where there is a multitude of construction work happening all with tower cranes and in fact we watched one being erected which was interesting but there were no road closures. The Farmers are being very selfish expecting retailers in the CBD to suffer financially through street closures for their benifit. Talking of a new vibrancy is another joke the way the CBD is heading it will be closed down well before the Farmers building is completed unless the Council makes an effort to improve the situation. Thank goodness it is election year!!!
