Work to begin Monday on Domain Rd
From Monday to Friday, May 6-10, Tauranga City Council will be re-constructing the pavement and surfacing on Domain Rd between Papamoa Beach Rd and Gravatt Rd.
Traffic movements will be reduced to one lane during the works. Motorists should expect delays and use an alternative route if possible.
Road reconstruction between Papamoa Beach Road and Gravatt Road includes improvements to Papamoa Beach Road roundabout improvements, road reconstruction and the installation of Wairakei culverts.
These works are part of Stage 1 of the Domain Road Upgrade project which will run up to July 2019.
More than 10,000 vehicles travel along Domain Rd every day. It’s a key link for residential areas, schools, retail shopping and the state highway, and the construction work is expected to make it safer and easier for people to walk, bike and catch the bus along Domain Rd.
Over the next three years, Tauranga City Council will be resurfacing the full length of the road to better cope with the number of vehicles, along with new landscaping.
Stage 2 of the Domain Road safety upgrades begins in July 2019 and is expected to continue through to June 2020.
During Stage 2, the work to be undertaken between Gravatt Road and The Gardens Drive, includes road widening and reconstruction; power, gas and telecommunication relocation; watermain and stormwater upgrades; new signalised pedestrian and cyclist crossing; construction of a shared footpath and cycleway; Doncaster Dr intersection upgrade, including traffic lights; and landscaping and tree planting.
