Easter road toll at one
The Easter road toll is currently at one after one person died in a crash in Huntly on Sunday night.
A police spokesperson says emergency services were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash on Hakarimata Road, near Huntly at around 8.35pm.
“It was near the intersection with Riverside Way.
“One person died at the scene, while another occupant sustained minor injuries.”
Seven people were killed on New Zealand’s roads last Easter.
ACC had 387 motor vehicle accident claims over Easter last year, an increase from the previous year of 312.
There are also fears this year could be even worse because of Easter Monday, ANZAC Day and the school holidays all falling in the same week.
“This year the risk will be higher with busier road. It takes everyone on the road to make it safe and look out for those most vulnerable,” says ACC chief customer officer Emma Powell.
