A teenager charged with possessing a copy of the video of the Christchurch mosque shootings has been granted bail.

The 17-year-old, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Hamilton District Court yesterday charged with possessing an objectionable publication.

He has been remanded on bail and will reappear in Thames District Court in June.

Chief Censor David Shanks has classified the footage and a publication reportedly written by the man accused of the shootings as objectionable.

Knowingly possessing or sharing objectionable material carries up to a 14 year jail term.

Another teenager, aged 16, charged for a similar offence was denied bail in Christchurch Youth Court earlier this month.
