Preparing the next generation of drivers
Tauranga students attended the second Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) programme on Monday, organised by Road Safety Education.
Year 12 students were taken through a series of workshops involving road safety, as 16 and 17 year olds approach the age to drive.
Road Safety Education Programme Manager Maria Lovelock says it is important for the next generation of drivers to be aware of hazards on the road.
“We run RYDA throughout the country and we take young people out just as they are starting that journey of getting their licence or thinking about getting their licence.
“We work predominantly with year twelves and we take them through a whole range of workshops, they are all interactive around all aspects of road safety.”
Maria says the course is setting up the students for success out on the road, either as a driver or passenger.
