Speedway action at its finest

“One of the craziest speedway nights you’ll see all season.” That’s how Mastercraft Kitchens Baypark Family Speedway promoter Bernie Gillon describes the Baypark Speedway Demolition Derby.

Coming to Mount Maunganui on Saturday, March 2, road rules go out of the window as drivers let loose with what is often a road car on its last legs.

“Basically, all of the glass, including mirrors, must be removed,” explains Bernie. “The correct seat belt is installed and a safety pole is put in behind the driver’s seat.

“Once on the track, it’s no holds barred.”

The addition of a ramp at each end of the track ensures some great antics on the night.

This year sees some new rules released in time for the next Demo Derby. The winner will be the car that completes 10 jumps over the ramp.

It’s not too late to get in on the action, and entries close on February 26.

As well as the Derby, other classes of racing include sprint cars, super saloons, saloons, mini stocks and V6 wingless sprint cars.

Gates open at 5pm, while racing starts at 6.30pm and concludes at 10pm. Buffet meals will be available in the speedway lounge from 5pm.

The Kidz Zone will be open from 5pm, with Dialled Inflatables to keep the kids entertained alongside face painting by Lillybeth Melmoth.

Tickets cost $60.00 for a family (two adults and three children), $25 for adults, $10 for seniors with a Gold Card and $10 for children aged 5-15. Under-fives can attend free of charge.

Enjoy an action-packed night out that’s fun for the whole family.

To buy tickets go to: www.bayparkspeedway.co.nz or buy on the gate on the night.
