New race date for Racing Tauranga

For horse racing fans a day at the races on Waitangi day is set to become a regular feature from tomorrow.

A treat is on the cards for horse racing fans on Waitangi day in Tauranga.

It’s a new race date that’s set to become a regular feature for Racing Tauranga.

Racing Tauranga spokesman Andrew Love says it’s a seven race programme starting at 12.30pm.

“The $30,000 Laser Electrical 1400 is the feature race, timed to go at 2.50pm,” says Andrew.

“The favourites are Pop Star Princess and Veine D’or.

“Pop Star Princes in her only start at Tauranga won back in November. In her last start at Counties she finished second but won a trial two weeks prior.

“Veine D’or has four wins from 13 starts with the last win coming here at Tauranga on January 2nd.

“Local farrier and trainer, Peter Huxtable, will hope Come Back Tiger can repeat the win he scored here back in early December.

“The four-year-old gelding has gone two tidy race since, including a 3rd here at Tauranga three weeks ago.

“Watch out for Excelsior Island who has shown a liking for the Tauranga course, winning here on January 2nd and finishing 3rd here 3 weeks ago.

“Course entry is free, and there is also free children’s entertainment and BBQ tables.

 “The 7 race programme winds up at 4.10pm.”
