What’s On? Jazz Fest & Book Sale

Happy Easter Sunday, SunLive readers. Hopefully it’s a good one and you’re full of chocolate and/or piety.

The biggest event of Easter Weekend – the National Jazz Festival – is still in full swing, with plenty on today to keep you entertained.

The forecast today is for a fine day, with a chance of an evening shower. A high of 23 is on the cards, so get out and enjoy the last vestiges of summer while you can.

Today the Downtown Carnival is on The Strand from 12-6pm, with five stages hosting a range of acts playing jazz, blues, and funk. There’s also a family fun zone at Masonic Park (between Phoenix and India Today) from 10.30am to entertain the kids. Entry to the carnival is by gold coin, with children under 14 free, so head on down to take advantage of the all day free parking and get amongst it.

For the more literary-minded among you, the Rotary Tauranga Easter Book Sale is on at Seeka Warehouse in Harvard Way, Mount Maunganui (off Jean Batten Drive). It’s the second day of the three day book sale, in which thousands of people will rifle through the books on offer in the hopes of finding some gems. There are plenty of well-preserved classics, as well as non-fiction, CDs, tapes, and plenty of Dan Brown novels. Doors open at 9am, so get in quick.

Well I can’t imagine all those bands played for free or anyone set those stages up out of the goodness of their heart.
