What’s On? Tennis & Theatre
Good morning, SunLive readers, and welcome to your Sunday.
After last week’s scorching days, it looks like it will be a bit cooler today.
MetService is forecasting a high of 23 degrees and an overnight low of 17, with light winds and a small chance of an afternoon shower.
Hopefully any rain will hold off, because today the Sunday Shootout is taking place at the Mount Maunganui Tennis Courts.
Sunday Shootout is a unisex, one set tennis competition that has 16 single players compete over a three-hour period.
Into its fourth month, the tournament has seen world-ranked players enter, as well as rising junior players and ex-pros. Rising tennis star Valentina Ivanov, whose ranking is 96 ITF 18/u in the world, has also entered to play today.
Entry is free for spectators, with people encouraged to arrive at 3pm for a 3.30pm start.
This evening you can also enjoy some outdoor theatre at The Elms, where Tauranga Open Air Theatre’s season of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ continues at 7.30pm.
The plot concerns two young men – John Worthing (Michael Hayles) and Algernon Moncrieff (Cameron Buchanan), who both adopt the name and persona of ‘Ernest’ in order to impress their respective love interests.
Those love interests are Gwendolen Fairfax (Arumia Hayles) and Cecily Cardew (Jazzy Axton) - both of whom can only love a man with such a name.
The play runs until February 11. To find out more and buy tickets, visit www.ticketdirect.co.nz.
