Keeping an eye as 2017 draws to an end
While everyone hits the town to ring in the New Year, Tauranga City Council is keeping a close eye to make sure people remain safe.
Enhanced security measures and safety mechanisms are in place at the Mount, while Tauranga Traffic Operations Centre monitors the area to ensure any trouble spots are promptly seen to.
TCC events manager Gareth Wallis says Batman has been in Papamoa before making his way over to the Tauranga CBD.
"We had a nice crowd at the waterfront for the fireworks. Lots of families, lots of picnics."
There is no event organised over on Mount Main Beach.
"There’s plenty of bars and restaurants there for people to grab a meal or see a band," says Gareth.
"The feedback we’re getting is that people want to spend New Year’s Eve with the family and friends, and have a couple of drinks at home.
"They should be able to see out fireworks from certain places around the city."
Three fireworks displays are planned for midnight, which Gareth believes can be seen from most residence around the city.
