What’s On? Blessing the animals

Rabbits and other animals can get their blessing at St Goerge’s Anglican Church today. File photo.

Morning sunners, and welcome to October. Yeah, October!

Can you believe it’s nearly the end of the year? In less than three months we’ll be celebrating Christmas and hopefully enjoying the Bay’s beautiful summer.

Today the forecast is for a high of 15 degrees and a low of nine. Rain is expected to develop from this morning, and MetService has the little ‘wind’ symbol as our chief weather event – which doesn’t bode well for going outside.

At St George’s Anglican Church several animals are expected to make an appearance in the Tauranga SPCA’s annual blessing of the animals at 10am.

Everyone is invited along with their well-mannered animals. Dogs must be on a lead and cats and birds need to be in cages that allow for their normal movement. Horses and other large animals must be under the direct control of their owners.

Don’t forget to bring water and bowls, plastic bags and pooper-scoopers so your animal leaves only footprints behind. For more info, call the Tauranga SPCA on 578 2784.

A matinee performance of popular musical Mary Poppins is also on this afternoon at Baycourt from 2pm. It’s a great show for kids and families, with classic numbers from the original Disney film, as well as new songs guaranteed to delight. For more info visit
